Unweighting Therapy

FAST Physical Therapy has one of the few Pneumex Unweighting Systems in Michigan. The Pneumex unit reduces the amount of weight-bearing through the patient's lower extremities, which greatly assists in the rehabilitation of painful joints and injuries.

The client is placed in a comfortable harness that prevents them from falling during all facets of their gait and balance program. Unlike aquatic therapy, the unweighting system allows adjustable degrees of weight bearing. During treatment, the client can be sitting, walking or running on a treadmill, or be involved in balance activities.

Unweighting is very effective in treating acute/chronic back pain, gait, balance, and coordination disorders, and transitions the patient into a cardiovascular exercise program without the risk of falling. The Pneumex unit is also used in our sports training programs, which gives athletes the performance edge they are seeking.
